Re: Chase Slate Balance Transfer

I read somewhere that we could transfer balance from discover card so that it goes to negative and then ask discover to refund the negative balance to checking account. Not sure if it would work.

That seems to be their favorite reason. I was denied for that reason on the Promise card,  and on recon they approved me for $5k.

Which is why I've kept my app finger holstered since October. It's coming out the 20th of this month just for PenFed.

Denied as well.  EX=675.  I have a few INQ recently and was approved for Delta AMEX in FEB16 and Cabelas last week.  They should not be able to see my Cabelas INQ (EQ) as it has not reported yet.

cem13, I'd like to know how in the heck you got approved for the Delta AMEX with a BK that recent. I didn't know that was even possible. Good job! I had AMEX back in 1995 that was burned. Did you ever burn them?

I read a post that said Barclay denied the poster because of an old American Express balance that had not been paid.  Are the y connected in any way? That might be the common denominator in some of the Barlay and AmEx denials.  Just wondering.

doubtful it would work and CC companies don't like to issue checks for 'refunds' to card holders.  What your suggesting will put your friend on Discover's radar and potentially lead to an account suspension/closing

They're not connected.  Two different banks.  It's possible that the Amex balance was a chargeoff/collection reported on the applicant's credit file and that's why they were denied.

What should I apply for?

I'm working to increase my scores. I only had ~4 inquiries on each report but wanted to get some new cards to help utilization.

Wanted to see if anyone can think of other cards that I may qualify for, so that all inquiries will drop off at same time. Looking to be in garden for next year or so after this.

Current profile:
All score at 650
AAoA: 2.5 years
Only negatives: 3 Verizon wireless collection accounts.
80% UTI

Already have capital one rebuilder cards.

Here's what I just app'd for:

Lowes - $300
Walmart - $900
Paypal - $600 (maybe MasterCard)
Barclays Rewards MC - $1800

Denial on these:
Chase Freedom
Amex Everyday
Capital One Quicksilver Visa
-Anyone think they can be recon'd?

Any recommdarions and advice appreciated

Declined even after recon. That is OK I knew it was a long shot. I'll just treat my thrify and checking account well and reapply in a year or two.

If this is all you have then your credit profile is thin and with 80% Util you will have. Very hard time convincing them to reconsider.I would say def  try to get those 3 collections off or pay so Util can come down then reapply. Also if at 80% Util and 650 fico all around when the Util comes down you will see a increase as well.Time and age will help your profile.

Is Amex lowering their standards with the Amex Everyday card or are they just on a recruitment drive?  Ive been using Credit Karma for awhile now and all of a sudden

under recommendations the Amex EveryDay all of a sudden appears with approval odds at "Good" Now i know something is wrong because no Amex card has never hit my

list let alone at "Good" odds. My FICOs are basically the same now as my sig. Util down from 22% to 15%

About 2 weeks ago i went to Amex.com and did th pre-qualify app and got no offers ( surprise surprise ) After seeing my odds as being "Good" i retryed the pre-qualify

and still no offers.

Now for my questions

1) Is there a push ongoing for Amex EveryDay card and

2) When i just did the prequalify today, did Amex reuse my old soft pull data or was it based off of current CR?

I know I have almost no shot at any Amex card atm barring divine intervention but hope does spring eternal

Thanks

When CK tells you your chances are "good" or "very good" etc. it's completely meaningless. Don't pay it no mind.

My advice on what to apply for:

nothing.

You seriously need to stop applying for things, and let your accounts age.

I used a Groupon yesterday. I had to print the Groupon and bring into the store to sign up. That is when I got the preapproval.

Could you recommend some cards? My main hindrance is my aaoa: ~7 months.

Happy Friday!

I am relativity new here and this is my first post so please bear with me Smiley Happy

After years of just plain ignorance - I'm rebuilding my credit and couldn't be happier with my progress! I am looking to add one to three more credit cards so I can increase my # of accounts/limit and hopefully my scores and history, but I obviously only want to apply for cards that I have the better odds of getting approved for. I wanted to see if anyone can give me any suggestions or advice on what cards I should apply/and my odds of getting approved with my current standings.

Current Scores - FICO TU - 678, EQ - 685, EX - 638

Capital One Venture One (upgraded from Platinum) (2011) CL-$4,500

Capital One Quicksilver (11/2015) CL - $1,500

SYNCB/Amazon Store Card (2/16) CL - $800

* I have two closed accounts on my reports as well. A BofA card opened in 2010 which I was an authorized user on, closed in good standing, and a GMAC auto loan opened in 2003 as a joint applicant and closed in good standing.

The negatives on my report are:

* I have a charge off from a First Premier (Ugh!) opened in 2010 and charged off in 2013. The amount was only $300 and I recently PIF the charge off which increased my scores about 40 points. The account is still showing as open on my EX and EQ reports but it's closed on my TU report. I think it's showing as a Paid Charge Off on each report.

* I also have two late payments on the Capital One card opened in 2011, a 30 and a 60 day late from Sept and Oct of 2013. I tried a Goodwill letter but they wouldn't budge. I have good payment history since then.

0% Utilization. Inquires: TU - 3, but 1 inquiry will fall off in May, EQ - 1, EX - 1 or 2

On CK it has my AAoA as 1 year, 9 mons on TU and 2 Years, 9 mons on EQ (still counting my First Premier card), but on FICO, Credit.com and my Capital One credit tracker they have my credit history starting from when I got my auto loan in 2003, so 12 to 13 years.

From what I've been reading I think the credit cards I'd like to apply for:

1. US Bank Platinum - I have a checking/saving account with them and keep getting mailers for the Platinum and online I'm pre-qualified for the Platinum and Cash+ cards, but I think I have a better shot at the Platinum.

2. Discover It - Got pre-qualified on website

3. Barclay Rewards or Arrival (I know Barclay Rewards is a good option for fair credit)

4. AMEX Everyday - Although I don't know about this one, since they pull EX which is my lowest score. - Nothing comes up in pre-qualified on website

5. Chase - Slate or the new Freedom Unlimited. - Same as above - Nothing comes up in pre-qualified on website

Please let me know if there are any other cards I might have a better shot at...

If I get any of these cards I'm done with getting new credit for a while.

Oh and I live in California, income 52K with only about $250 a month going towards rent (don't ask, lol).

Ok, I think that's all the info I need to give out. Thanks in advance on any information you guys can give me.

hey there, you are looking good billy ray, don't mess it up lol. The guys here are great and have a ton of knowledge but many are enablers and just want a good show. you are the show ha-ha. myself I would take a different approach and move both the cap1s into prime cards and then get what you want with higher sl's. get the v1 over 5k and then pc to the venture and sd it. then focus on the qs1 and do the same. picking either a chase or amex is a solid idea as they are both tops in customer service and top all around lenders. sort of surprising that you don't have a chase per-approval sitting out there, then again I am surprised I don't have a csp out there for myself. this whole process takes time. I knew it was going to be an 18-24 month journey. take your time and do it right. why have a bunch of store cards and low cl's, makes no sense to me but that is just my .02. the one thing that I always shake my head at is all the lowes cards with super high cl's, it just erodes the ability to get real cards. to the individual does a lot of home improvements and if the lowes has a uber low % then I reverse my comment lol. again just my .02. good luck in whatever you end up doing.
