What an odd response!

EXTENUATING FACTORS EXIST REGARDING YOUR NFCU ACCOUNTS.

I called, and was told that due to the fact i had 3 cards already, i would not be given a fourth. Bummer, but on the plus side my gardening is still going strong since they didnt HP me since i already had 3 accts.  Guess the "Unicorn" is really hard to get.

Yes, it is.    So "Officially"  3 is still the max.   As we have seen with Peghede, its possible, but super rare and hard to do.

Thank you and I'm sure she will get hers too.

As your credit gets dramatically better, say 50 points, you will find it easier to open up new and better Cap One cards than to try and build them up from a $500 CL.  Seach Capital One "glass ceilings" and "buckets"

You may get some CLI, I got one for $8,000 once, but I also got approved for a $30k card the same day I was denied for ANY CLI on 3 accounts.

GL - YMMV

I was approved four months post discharge so I don’t see why she wouldn’t be. I was unsecured at the five month mark with a credit limit increase. I’m too chicken to app for a new card just yet. I feel like NFCU is being so good to me and I don’t want to ruin it.

i think one thing that helped me is the amount of charges I put on it but I pay it off weekly.  I don’t let more than my $7.99 Hulu charge post as a balance at the end of the statement cycle.

Check your our savings account and if the $500 is ‘hidden’ then that’s a good indication that she’s approved.

SomewhereIn505 and Shooting-for-800, both points make sense. I have been thinking about alternate ideas since my last post on here. I like the idea of doing the PC. This card supposedly gives a CLI after the 6th statement cuts, but it’ll likely be crappy. That’s probably a good time to PC it and I imagine that it may only use a soft pull since it should be based at least somewhat on my payments and UTIL, both of which are dead-on where they should be. And yes, rather than getting another subprime card, waiting it out for a better rate and terms definitely makes sense.

Thank you!  Status still shows Review in Process.

Our plan for this card is to put our natural gas bill autopay on it, plus use it for gas for both vehicles and pay it off every month.  We've been doing this with our Discover card for all of our other recurring payments and it's made managing our budget a heck of a lot easier.  Our natural gas company doesn't take Discover however.

Not sure of the current reason. Just wait the 91/3 on the secured card and app for a second card. They'll hook you up big time as long as you've been treating the card good. I got the secured card with a 550ish score. Apped 4 months later when my Fico9 was 609ish and they gave me 10k. Navy rocks.

IIRC... $500, $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 depending on the specific product and tier.
For instance, Freedom/FCU, Slate, Amazon CCs can start as low as $500 and other cards such as Southwest, Marriott, MileagePlus (non Visa Signature) can start as low as $2,000. CSP minimum SL is $5,000, while CSR and Ritz minimum SL is $10K.

ETA: forgot to include the min SL of $15K for United Club.

I just updated my original post to include this. I hope they offer this as a Visa Infinte verison soon since the minimum is higher than the CSR

Happy July 4th!

Well...pulled the trigger this morning...approved for an Amex MR (third card!!!), CLOC and still waiting on the CLI...I'm also considering applying for an auto refinance, but, I've been doubling up on my car payments, so, the interest rate may not matter at this point.

I wasn't planning to apply for the new card because I didn't want to disturb my AAoA...but, when the CLI wasn't automatically approved (despite my score increasing 80 points!!!), I figured, why not...

Wondering if since I already took a hit, should I creep around the PenFed site Smiley Wink

Edited to add...AR done, but everything was an HP...although the CLOC and CLI may have been the same HP (although the CLI HP may not have happened yet, since it went to 24 hour review)

Have a great day my friends!

Happy hump day!

Congrats to everyone who had a successful AR month!!

Wanted to chime in with an update and some data points. First, NFCU rewarded me with a new cc, a cloc, no cli...and 3 HPs!!!

The CLI was declined, but once I received the denial letter (reached maximum unsecured limit), I sent a recon secured message. We'll see. My NFCU score is 316/F9 is 657. My last 30 day late was 18mos ago--but, it was on my student loans, so it is reported as 10 lates! I have 4 paid COs and 1 paid coll...all from 2012. My uti is under 25%. 12 inq/CRA. All of my baddies are scheduled to fall off in July 2019 (can't wait to see that report!!!). I did not receive a CLI on my $4600 CR, but, they gave me a $15k MR. Oh, Navy!

Have a nice evening...I'm going to the Garden...my only step out, will be for a mortgage.

Have a great night!

Aww!! The Capone steps program..
1. Don’t apply for another Capone for 6 months. They have a 1 card every 6 months rule
2. They will triple pull you 1st, then they will tell you about the 1 card every 6 month rule.

I found that out the hard way.

3. Ask for a cli before your credit steps kick in. After your credit steps kick in your have to wait 6 months to get approved for a cli

4.Do attempt to PC this card. You should be able to PC it to a QS rewards card and still get a CLI before credit steps kick in.

Good luck on your journey!

I think I will wait to apply.  If I had a set APR I would go for it.

I have checked Amex, BoA, Capital One, Chase, Citi, and US Bank's prequalification pages.   I did not prequalify at all with Chase, and BoA gave me a range.  The rest gave me a set APR.  So only 2/3 preapproved me.

I don't want to take a chance of not getting approved or approved for a small amount.  I think I will wait and apply for a personal loan.

What should I get my utilization down to before applying for a personal loan?  Would below 48.9% be sufficient?

Thank you.

Good advice! So in other words, during the 5th billing cycle, call them up and ask for a CLI as well as a PC rather than wait for the puny auto CLI, and see what they’ll do.

Still in Review in Process status.  Smiley Sad

The lady at NFCU said this should only take a couple of hours and that was over 6 hours ago.  Is this a bad sign?

I am just frustrated. It is my only card with an annual fee and I want to use it with its zero interest for 12 months but at $1000 it is killing me. I have put $5000 on the Citi and paid it in full but this thing I put one purchase on it and it is maxed out. I expected it to be my daily driver and I can't use it for that purpose.

Based on a previous post of yours you have the Blue Cash Preferred with a $95 AF and recently you paid off the "maxed out" balance of $1000. I'm not sure I'd be maxing out my credit limit on a new card and if you want to get rid of the AF perhaps you are better off with the "everyday" no -AF version.  Credit is built over time and every time you get you let a derogatory hit your reports, let alone 3X in a year, its one step forward and 4 back to ground zero.

As I said in a previous post on this thread, AmEx is very cautious until they really get to know you and that starts with a credit report and matures as they gain trust in your spending patterns.

The only reason was too many inquiries.

My score sits around 725 right now. By the time I app for CITIBANK again, it should be closer to high 700s due to low utilization.

I recently requested a CLI with BOFA and CAPITAL ONE. Was this a bad move? Would this reset my gardening time?

US Bank tends to be extremely cautious in everything they do.  Almost all of their apps are done by manual review as FinnStar noted.  Fingers crossed, and if you get rejected, take a look at the reason and try the reconsideration line.  That was the only way I got my first card with them.  Even with the existing relationship, my second one was manually reviewed as well.

Best of luck, and I hope they give you a nice SL.

Use the search box on this forum for the Cap One Upgrade link. You log in and it will tell you if your eligible or not.

Depending on how much you have cycled (and payment history) through your card, there is a chance you’ll be given a steps CLI greater than the amount they emailed you on. I started with Platinum SL $500 (promises $250 CLI to $750) PC to QS around month 4, a few weeks later CLI of $100 (to $600) and ended up with $500 steps CLI with total line at $1100.

Today my Cap One exposure is $2,200 - the smallest exposure I have with a creditor. I have pretty much SD this card since it hasn’t grow on much as my other cards.
